Every so often I will be posting under the ‘Derailed’ heading. This is for posts that are outside my normal comfort area…indie rock/pop
When you think of hip-hop hubs, Minneapolis is probably not the first city to come to mind. But the Twin Cities actually have a pretty exciting scene. And now with Def Jux changing their direction, the Doomtree collective, in association with the Rhymesayers label, just might be the most exciting thing in independent-minded rap.
Rhymesayers represents the majority of local acts in their hometown, as well as artists from around the country, and even the world. Doomtree is strickly a local phenenomem that is made up of hip-hop artists that have been largely influened by punk music. P.O.S., one of the founders, cites Fugazi and Bad Brains as two of his major influences.
Part of the Doomtree collective, P.O.S. and Dessa, along with Rhymesayer‘s Grieves with Budo, will be performing at the Marquis Theatre on Friday, Feb. 5th. I’ll be attending with my own Denver ‘collective’!
