I Listen, CO

Last night we caught San Diego’s Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute, Cash’d Out, at the Bluebird.  A friend of mine had seen them at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach and highly recommended them.

Denver’s own Brent Loveday of Reno Divorce opened up with an acoustic set of his Social Distortion influenced rockabilly punk.  His set was enjoyable but was a little lacking without his band to back him up.

Cash’d Out performed a variety of Johnny Cash songs. They ranged from hits such as A Boy Named Sue, Folsom Prison Blues and a crowd sing-along version of Ring of Fire to lesser known songs, such as Long Black Veil (which appears on Rosanne Cash‘s new album, The List) .  They smoked cigarettes almost non-stop through the set while pounding PBR’s, the occasional shot and even a Jägerbomb (which wasn’t very country).

I am not usually into cover bands, but since I never got to see the man in black himself, it was the next best thing.
