I entered a contest to host a listening party for Drive-By Truckers‘ new album, The Big To-Do, last week. My proposition was a Winter BBQ at my buddy’s house. He lives on a private lake in Denver. I forgot I had entered almost as soon as I hit sent on the email with the proposal. The next day I was informed I had been chosen. It was then that I informed my buddy that I had offered up his home.
Without much time to plan, we threw this party together and invited as many people as we could for the only day that worked for both of us..Saturday, March 13th. The problem with this date, as we soon found out, was that it was the day most people were partying downtown for St. Patty’s Day. With that roadblock in place, we decided to move forward anyway, figuring if we got at least 20 people we’d call it a success.
Well, a success it was! The weather held up perfectly! It was perfect BBQ weather; reaching the mid-60’s during the peak of the afternoon. The people showed up…we ended up having right around 25. And the new album was a hit!
I’d say half the people at the party had not heard DBT before and they were just as impressed as those of us that are fans. I will be reviewing the new album shortly, but I can say right now that it’ll be one of the best of the year!
We rotated the new album with the The Dirty South Live at the 40 Watt DVD…this live show got everybody even more excited for the Colorado stops on the latest tour!
Thanks everybody for making our first event a success!
