Slipknot. Lamb of God. Red Rocks. 08.19.15 Slipknot closed the night with “Surfacing”, a ‘national anthem’ for outsiders around the world, and although the lyrics read like something scribbled in the journal of a disturbed teenager, it didn’t stop thousands of grown men (and some women) from screaming along with their fists in the air.

Patterson Hood turned 50 last year and Mike Cooley has 13 months until he hits that milestone. Before last night, they had performed at Red Rocks 0 times. (edit – DBT actually

Damien Rice. Iron & Wine. Red Rocks. 08.10.15 The transformative process of puberty is something every boy experiences. It’s a part of growing up. The physical and biological changes can cause excitement, confusion, anxiety and anger – sometimes all within the running time of a single song. As men, we sometimes forget what it was

Florence + the Machine. Red Rocks. 08.03.15 Only a few hours after I wrote about Hozier performing one of the most intimate sets I had ever experienced at Red Rocks, Florence Welsh completely redefined the word ‘intimacy’. Hozier / Dawes. Red Rocks. 08.02.15 As much as our 12-year-old daughter loves going to concerts with her parents, especially when we drag her to see bands that peaked before she was born, she seems to enjoy herself much more when she can bring a friend along. alt-J / TV on the Radio. Red Rocks. 07.27.15 Every Red Rocks show comes with a ‘Rain or Shine’ disclaimer. Van Halen. Red Rocks. 07.20.15 I don’t usually read other reviews before writing my own. It would be impossible for me to plagiarize someone else because I’m not a music critic, but it’s just easier to get my own thoughts down when I don’t have someone else’s opinions floating around in my head. It’s also

Morrissey. Red Rocks. 07.16.15 The first indication that it was not an average evening at Red Rocks came as we approached the Upper North ramp. A man and a woman were being turned away because they had sandwiches in their bag. They didn’t have booze or drugs or weapons, they had something much worse…they had cold

Future Islands. Red Rocks. 07.16.15 “We’re Future Islands man, this is just what the fuck we do!” Truer words have never been spoken from the stage at Red Rocks.
