What can I say about a Lucero show that I haven’t already said here, here and here? Well, nothing really. They came through town again for the 3rd or 4th time this year and they put on a 2 hour kick-ass show and then they walked off stage, out the front door of the Bluebird

The Darkness Reborn Tour brought two Norweigen black metal bands to town; two bands I have been listening to a lot recently. Enslaved’s excellent new album, Axioma Ethica Odini, has been on repeat since I downloaded it and Dimmu Borgir‘s Abrahadabra provided me with a gateway to their older material. Out of all the metal

The Afghan Whigs were one of those bands I missed. They came and went and I didn’t have much exposure. This seems to be norm for this band that released quite a few influential albums, but never achieved mainstream success. Over the years I have developed respect for Greg Dulli though. The Twilight Singers and

Yesterday was one of those days when I just wanted to lay around and watch football and that’s just what I did. We had family in town and had an enjoyable lazy day around the house. As the day turned to night the thought of venturing out to see some music seemed less and less

Blackest of the Black is Danzig’s answer to Ozzfest. He felt the corporate festival booked nothing but shitty nü-metal bands and decided to create his own, non-corporate, DIY event. OK, so last night’s Fun Fun Fun Kick-Off Party catered to a certain demographic…geeks! But really, what would you expect from a night that started out with a local Queen tribute band (led by a 6′ 5″, bearded, skin-tight purple jumpsuit sporting lead singer) and ended with an inspired set by “Weird Al” Yankovic? It

‘I’m Sufjan Stevens and I’ll be your entertainment this evening.’ Those were the first spoken words of Sufjan‘s set and they came around 8:45pm, after opening with the title track from 2004’s Seven Swans (one of the only older songs performed throughout the night). Over 2 hours later I was walking out of the Paramount
There was a time…a time before the Internet, a time before I moved to a city with live shows and real record stores and before I discovered Tom Waits…there was a time when Roger Waters was by far my favorite living artist. Pink Floyd had a sound that was larger than life to this small
