Living in Colorado is no joke. Sure, there are states with harsher climates and less days of sunshine, but you would be hard pressed to find a city where the weather is as unpredictable as Denver. When I decided to move here from California, I did so with eyes wide open. There were no misconceptions

I’m not going to claim to be a genius, or to have a familiar relationship with Jesus, but I think I may have a touch of something — a gift of some kind. How else would you explain my prediction, weeks before the damaged LED screen, that the “Yeezus Tour” would not be making a stop in

Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom is one of the most deceptive venue names in history. The club exists in a dead zone of Five Points, at least eight blocks from the nearest watering hole. The venue serves its purpose well, but it’s not the type of place you want to hang out all night. It was for

I recently read a review of a show that happened in Boulder in which the author seemed extremely disappointed that the band didn’t play a couple of their biggest hits. The band being reviewed has been in business for over twenty years and has no less then twenty chart-topping singles — many of which they

Hope Sandoval wants to be heard, not seen. If that wasn’t made apparent by the strict ‘no photography’ rule, it should have been when she made her way onto a candlelit stage cloaked in shadows. Dressed in all black, there was nothing more than that signature seductive voice and a little flash of flesh separating the

My eyes were burning despite the dark sunglasses and overcast sky. I was navigating my nondescript rental car down Highway 29, keeping an eye out for an In-N-Out Burger, when I realized I had missed the turn-off for Interstate 80. The fog was being ushered west (back to the bay) by a sun eager to

We were on our way to the mountains for the weekend when I was first exposed to Sleigh Bells. I had downloaded a bunch of blogged-about tracks that week and hadn’t had a chance to listen to them, so I threw them on a playlist for the drive to Summit County. Everything was going smooth

Lion’s Lair is just another dive bar in a parade of dive bars that trudge up and down East Colfax Avenue. Positioned a little too far from the Fillmore and Ogden Theater, and not far enough east to benefit from the Bluebird crowd, the unremarkable stain on a street of stains is truly a locals only haunt.

The last time Watain defiled the Marquis Theater was almost three years ago, and like last night, the ritual corresponded with the first signs of a greedy winter. The final season never wants to wait her turn — instead, she blasts through autumn with brute force — ripping leaves from high on trees and delivering

People are sick of hearing my story about reading Christine when I was in the 3rd grade. It’s one of those stories that I hear coming out of my mouth at least once a year. It was my first real book report. I had to write the title, the number of pages, a short summary
