With so many shows happening in late October, it was hard to get real excited about seeing Menomena at The Bluebird last night. My mind was elsewhere, looking forward to the Lucero/Social D show, The Walkmen w/Japandroids and local indie darlings Tennis and of course, The National on Monday! I saw Menomena a couple times

It seems like just yesterday the initial line-up for the 2010 Red Rocks season started trickling out and now it’s already over. Alice in Chains, along with Deftones and Mastodon closed out the season with the Blackdiamondskye Tour on Monday night. When we bought the tickets to this show I was already mentally preparing for

In 2008 I was lucky enough to attend 3 of Tom Waits‘ Glitter and Doom Tour dates…opening night in Phoenix, AZ, a few days later in El Paso, TX and the final night of the US leg in Atlanta, GA. My girlfriend and I flew to Georgia for the 4th of July and caught Tom‘s

In 2008 I was lucky enough to attend 3 of Tom Waits‘ Glitter and Doom Tour dates. This was the e-mail I sent to my friends after El Paso…it’s mostly just a recap of the setlist, but thought I’d post it anyway. It is Tom Waits afterall! I am sitting in the El Paso airport

Curtis Lane is at the top of my favorite 2010 releases. It brings together the best aspects of electronic music and ups the ante with Pat Grossi‘s personal lyrics and choirboy vocals. Wilderness brought me in, Your Love Is Safe hooked me and the rest of the 6-song EP brought me back for more over

‘Come to the darkside, we have cookies’ I went to a Grateful Dead show once. I believe it was at Shoreline in Mountain View, CA. I didn’t go inside or anything; just hung out in the parking lot and partied with my friends. If someone would have asked what my favorite Dead song was or

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the Bluebird last week was that the band on stage looked like kids that should be practicing in their parents basement. Long hair, skinny jeans, vintage Def Leppard t-shirts from 1992 (!!!????)…dirty, greasy, wannabe rock stars from Nowhere, USA. Not what I expected from these indie

Last time Bloc Party came through San Francisco I didn’t go. I had tickets but I opted out. We couldn’t find a sitter and I decided I would be the one who stayed home. It’s not that I didn’t want to go. I think I was making up for something I did wrong. I did

From the moment I first walked into Larimer Lounge a couple years ago, I knew I had found my spot. This was the first place I had found in Denver that reminded me of San Francisco. It’s a dive, they pour stiff cheap drinks, they have an outside patio in the back and they book
