Sublime was just as much about a time and place as it was about the music. Bradley, Bud and Eric defined Southern California is the mid-90s. This was a time when Offspring and Green Day ruled the radio with Smash and Dookie. It was a time when punk was making a comeback in a pop

Last night I experienced one the best shows I’ve seen in awhile. Yeasayer and Sleigh Bells sold out months ago and I’m pretty surprised they did not move it down the street to The Ogden to accommodate all the fans that were standing outside trying to score a ticket. We got there early and situated

The first time I saw the name Ani DiFranco it was on a poster on the wall in front of Lou’s Records in Encinitas, CA. It was 1995 and the poster was for Dilate. It had Ani crouched down in a corner with her face hidden by multi-colored braided hair. She looked pretty punk rock,

Larimer Lounge is one of my favorite spots in Denver. It’s the one venue that really reminds me of being back in San Francisco. Last night was no exception. After a successful vinyl shopping spree for Record Store Day we went to dinner and bowling with some friends and then I hit Larimer. That’s one

Ben Nichols was trashed by the time he sang Mom in Ft. Collins on Monday night and I was tired! I was in Ft. Collins that day and decided to stick around for the Lucero show even though I was catching them the next night at The Bluebird. I have seen Lucero a couple times

Teen Dream is the first Beach House album I have been able to get into. And I really, really like it. It’s a dream pop album that plays over and over again in my head when I’m trying to fall asleep at night. But seeing them live is something I wasn’t sure I needed to

We brought our daughter to the Taylor Swift concert last night. She is 7 years old. Her first concert was Outside Lands Festival in Golden Gate Park. She saw Drive-By Truckers, Bon Iver, Broken Social Scene among others on Day 3 of that festival. She saw Okkervil River open for Wilco at Red Rocks and

After attending the first (and sold out) night of Spoon‘s 2-night stand at The Ogden, I can say I am no closer to understanding why the band is so popular. They are not a bad band, in fact I guess they are pretty good, but I just don’t get them. They are like the Muse

Yesterday was a long day and it wasn’t an easy day. By the time 6pm rolled around I was thinking my couch and a movie sounded much better than a drive up to Boulder to catch a few indie folk acts. I seriously considered it for about an hour before I finally got moving. Even
