Eric Church / Maren Morris. Red Rocks. 08.09.16 It would be easy to write Eric Church off as just another cookie-cutter country star manufactured and produced in Nashville, Tennessee for your listening and viewing pleasure. Slap on a pair of designer boots and blue jeans, trim and sculpt the hair and scruff, hand him a

LCD Soundsystem. Red Rocks. 08.02.16 / 08.03.16 When Chuck Klosterman interviewed James Murphy prior to LCD Soundsystem’s farewell performance, he presented the idea that while bands (and people) are mostly remembered for their collection of successes, they are defined by their singular failure. When Murphy was posed with the question of his own defining failure,

The National. Red Rocks. 07.31.16 As we get older, it gets harder and harder to get the band back together. Not a literal band, of course. We were never a band. But there was a time when we partied like rock stars. Going out on a Tuesday night was the norm; weekends were for amateurs.

Dolly Parton. Red Rocks. 07.27.16 Many living legends have found their way onto the stage at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, but very few have been able to compete with the natural spectacle of the venue. Dolly Parton proved to be an exception to the rule on Wednesday night. At 70 years old,

Sufjan Stevens. Red Rocks. 07.18.16 As his voice rose to the heavens above Red Rocks, “because he is the Lord, cause he is the Lord,” massive feathered wings grew from the back of Sufjan Stevens. case/lang/veirs. Denver Botanic Gardens. 07.10.16 July 10th, 2016 was a hot day in Denver, Colorado. Brutally hot. The blazing sun scorched the asphalt on York Street, while the informed ‘friends’ of the Botanic Gardens lounged in regulation folding chairs. Sipping cold drinks under the relative comfort of large umbrellas, the faithful formed the majority of a

Modest Mouse / Brand New. Red Rocks. 06.29.16 I have to admit I went into last night’s dual-headlining show with a healthy amount of skepticism. There was a time when Modest Mouse was my absolute favorite rock band, but that time had long since passed. The group from the Pacific Northwest was one of the

James McMurtry. Bluebird Theater. 06.24.16 Before moving to Colorado I didn’t have any friends who were into jam bands. I also didn’t have any friends who were into EDM. Sure, most of us had hung out in the parking lot at a Dead show, seen Phish once or twice, and attended our fair share of

Sia. Red Rocks. 06.22.16 The term ‘wardrobe malfunction’ is never one a popstar wants associated with their name, and although it wasn’t used to describe what happened to Sia last night, it very well could have been. Heavy gusts of wind wreaked havoc on Red Rocks the entire evening, before one such gust attacked the
