Jason Isbell / Lucero. Red Rocks. 09.14.16 “You come to shows here often?” It was an honest question, but it sparked a pissing contest of sorts. We were on the ramp leading into the venue from the Upper North Lot and a married couple behind us was trying to determine the odds of getting decent seats. It was

Hall & Oates / Trombone Shorty / Sharon Jones. Red Rocks. 09.12.16 Summer might have a couple weeks before hibernation, but the air smelled of autumn as I tried to avoid staring at an older couple who were sucking face as if they were teenagers in a movie theater. Public displays of affection have never been

Sammy Hagar & The Circle. Red Rocks. 09.05.16 Months of anticipation led up to the first concert I chose to attend. A few other shows had come before, but as much as I enjoyed seeing Stevie Nicks at Cal Expo and Crystal Gayle at a dinner show in Lake Tahoe, I wasn’t there by choice.

Heart. Joan Jett. Cheap Trick. Red Rocks. 08.30.16 Filthy water rushed down the stairs as the masses fought their way to shelter. Eric Church / Maren Morris. Red Rocks. 08.09.16 It would be easy to write Eric Church off as just another cookie-cutter country star manufactured and produced in Nashville, Tennessee for your listening and viewing pleasure. LCD Soundsystem. Red Rocks. 08.02.16 / 08.03.16 When Chuck Klosterman interviewed James Murphy prior to LCD Soundsystem’s farewell performance, he presented the idea that while bands (and people) are mostly remembered for their collection of successes, they are defined by their singular failure. When Murphy was posed with the question of his own defining failure,

The National. Red Rocks. 07.31.16 As we get older, it gets harder and harder to get the band back together. Not a literal band, of course. We were never a band. But there was a time when we partied like rock stars. Going out on a Tuesday night was the norm; weekends were for amateurs.
