The Dillinger Escape Plan are an insane live band! There is really no other way to put it. Anyone who has ever attended a Dillinger show is already aware of that fact. So it was no surprise that the anticipation was so thick before they took the stage that one could hardly breathe. As the

If someone would have walked up to me in 2005 and asked me which ‘indie’ band I thought would be playing huge arena shows in less than 10 years, I doubt my answer would have included the words Arcade Fire. Seriously, Funeral is among my favorite albums of all time, but it didn’t exactly scream

The photo above best represents the image in my head of what The Knife would look like on stage. My skewed perspective came from the media that surrounded the album that first introduced me to the masked Dreijer siblings. The visual companions to Silent Shout were extremely dark and they portrayed Karin and Olof as anonymous

Keeping a band together for two decades is no small achievement, but continuing to support a band through that kind of run isn’t easy either. How many bands can you say you’ve loved through your 20’s and 30’s…and even into your 50’s and 60’s? And I’m not talking about that one CD you played in your

Thoughts are fleeting. The rich narrative that builds in my head during any given show is usually gone within 24 hours. Like spring snow melting down to nothing more than wet spots reflecting the sun, the details of any given performance dissolve down to nothing more than flashing lights and snippets of feelings that have long since

It was a Sunday night and I was standing on a chair in a bookstore. A quick scan through the shelves below me provided my bearings as somewhere between the ‘humor’ and ‘teen’ section – about mid-store. I browsed through Dr. Denis Leary’s “Why We Suck” before discarding it in favor of The Onion’s “Our

April 10th, 2014 turned out to be a great night in Denver. Those who were in town for the Craft Brewers Conference mingled with the locals at various establishments all over town. Falling Rock, Fresh Craft, Star Bar and TRVE were all standing-room only as bartenders were busy pulling taps and filling glasses with decade’s old

Sometimes I wish extreme music was more popular. I realize that goes against everything that ‘extreme’ bands and fans stand for, but before you gather the black-clad masses to hunt me down and feed me to the lions, let me explain my thought process here. It really comes down to one simple thing…I can’t attend

Foreigner’s “Feels Like the First Time” was all too appropriate as a sudden darkness engulfed the capacity crowd at Bluebird Theater. It was the fifth time I’d seen Adam Granduciel and his War on Drugs, but as the band took the stage in a hazy green glow, it really did feel like the first time. Granduciel

Age was on everyone’s mind during Lorde’s debut performance in Colorado last night. The 20-somethings were in awe of how many kids were in attendance. The kids seemed shocked that there were so many parents in the crowd. The bartenders were glad that this all-ages show attracted enough legal drinkers to keep the lines long
