There was a bittersweet feeling in my heart as the idiosyncratic Valerie June took the stage at the Gothic Theatre last night. I had been waiting to see her perform for over a year and I couldn’t hold back my excitement as she introduced her ‘moonshine roots music’ with “If You Love And Let Go” from

The door to the backstage room was ajar, allowing the curious to witness Angel Olsen and her band lounging around before their set. The scene wasn’t all that interesting — a couple couches, a chair, a few Stellas and a girl in a denim jacket with her face buried in her phone. The scene outside

Picture this — it’s a warm summer evening and you’re hanging out at the county fair. The sun is setting over the horizon, providing sweet relief from the heat wave that has been infecting the state with sweltering temperatures. You’ve spent the past couple hours wandering through the exhibits and eating various fried foods on

Moonface is Spencer Krug. Spencer Krug is Moonface. This has never been more apparent than it was at Moe’s last night. Gone were the festival-sized synths and guitars of Wolf Parade. Gone were the psychedelic sounds of Sunset Rubdown. Gone were his fellow percussion nerds. And gone were his friends in Siinai. The Canadian, who now

Some shows just scream to be written about. By the end of the night the narrative already exists. When I sit down in front of the computer the next day, it’s just a matter of transcribing what the artist(s) have already delivered in the form of their performance. My best reviews are not really reviews

The 3rd Annual Winter on the Rocks was perfect. Although it didn’t start out that way. I couldn’t help but question my own intelligence as I navigated Red Rocks Loop in the dark. The temperature outside was a cool 25°F as my headlights reflected off the fog back through my windshield. The Upper North Lot

I’m too old for this shit. Seriously. Standing in lines to get into punk rock shows should be something I reminisce about when I want my daughter to think I used to be cool. It’s not something I should be doing while the windchill whispers death into my frozen ears. When Patrick Kindlon asked if we

“We ain’t ever gonna make it, like I thought we would So why can’t we just pack it up and say we did the best we could? I used to be a decent man, then life just took its toll Now I’m just a casualty of rock ’n’ roll.” American Aquarium haven’t ‘made it’ in

There was a point during Patterson Hood’s solo performance at Larimer Lounge last night when the lead Drive-By Trucker pretty much gave up trying to hide how high he was. It was during the encore, after a 15-minute song/diatribe about white-knuckle traveling in West Virginia, and halfway into “Dead, Drunk, and Naked”, when he forgot

Living in Colorado is no joke. Sure, there are states with harsher climates and less days of sunshine, but you would be hard pressed to find a city where the weather is as unpredictable as Denver. When I decided to move here from California, I did so with eyes wide open. There were no misconceptions
