As the first chords of “Autre Temps” opened the Alcest show, much the way they open their latest album, Les Voyages de l’Âme, I found it unsettling that we shared the room with less than 100 people. Hailing from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, France, Alcest are arguably the best in the subgenre of musicians combining the density and

Radiohead are the sole reason I am still in Denver tonight. If the boys from Oxford weren’t performing at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, I would have been well on my way to Austin for SXSW. That being said, I do have a flight to catch in a matter of hours, so I’m going

There were many things I didn’t know when I walked into Hi-Dive last night. I was ignorant and full of misconceptions. First off, I was unaware of Erika M. Anderson’s history with Denver. It seems she has been frequenting our Mile High City for quite some time, both as EMA, and with her previous band

‘Welcome to 3/4’s of the Gigantour‘ Megadeth were about halfway through their headlining set when Dave Mustaine addressed the elephant in the room, which was the fact that Lemmy was not. ‘Thanks to all the Motörhead fans for sticking around‘ It was a small consolation to those of us who paid $60 for the chance

If you are the type of person who prefers your music shroud in an air of mystery, it might disturb you to learn that the most exciting, innovative label in the extreme scene exists not in some secret lair, but amidst a peaceful piece of land outside of Toronto, Canada. Yes, you read that right – peaceful Canada. No need to worry though, let’s just use our imaginations for a moment here – picture a land covered in ice and snow year-round; a pack of hungry gray wolves stalk the perimeter; there is a dark path that leads to a river flowing red with the blood of those who have dared cross into this forsaken realm, and the sole inhabitant sits upon his throne, gold chalice in hand, surrounded by his most prized spoils of war (vinyl), all while The Gault’s Even as All Before Us rings out across the horizon as the sun sets for the last time.

Like most punk bands from the 80’s, the Descendents did not gain mass appeal until after the fact. Milo went to college, punk broke, and it wasn’t until the pop punk bands of the mid-90’s took over the charts that bands like the Descendents were catapulted to iconic levels. So it’s not surprising that a

Don’t call them Guns N’ Roses, but don’t mistake ‘Fat Axl’ for ‘Lazy Axl’. In fact, although he might have 100 lbs on the serpentine, drug-addled dance machine in the “Welcome To The Jungle” video, Mr. Rose proved himself a better performer than he ever was back then. When Guns N’ Roses came through Sacramento
‘We’ve been coming to Denver for 26 years!‘ For over a quarter century, Mike Ness and a revolving cast of characters have been on the road, bringing punk rock to the masses. It was 1978 when Ness formed Social Distortion around his love of British punk rock, American rock ‘n roll and the original man

Every time Nathaniel Rateliff comes home to Denver, it’s like a family reunion. Friday night at the Gothic Theatre was no different. A hometown line-up including not only Nathaniel and his Fairchildren, but also Snake Rattle Rattle Snake, Bad Weather California and A. Tom Collins, brought people out en masse on this chilly Black Friday.
