I am proposing a name swap. After seeing How To Dress Well and Active Child perform the same stage, in the same venue, in the same week, I believe it is Pat Grossi who knows how to dress well and Tom Krell who is the active child. I mean, c’mon…Krell is tall and lanky, has

Suburban Home’s Sweet 16 Anniversary Weekend is a real contender for ‘best weekend of music’ in what has proven to be a standout year in our Mile High City. That being said, it is also to blame for one of the longest work weeks I have experienced this year, as well as one of the

As I lay on the couch today, nursing a hangover and resting up for the second night of the Suburban Home Records Sweet 16 Anniversary Weekend at 3 Kings Tavern, I can’t help but ask myself ‘what went wrong?’ Sure, we did some pre-drinking but we also ate a full meal at The Hornet before

Phil Anselmo might be known as much for being an asshole as he is for bitch-slapping your eardrums with bands like (the legendary) Pantera, Arson Anthem and the super ‘southern sludge’ group, Down. Anselmo will be the first to admit he’s done and said some regrettable things in the past, sometimes he’ll say some new

Last night’s performance at Red Rocks was one of those rare occasions where I had zero expectations. That’s not to say I wasn’t looking forward to seeing Death Cab For Cutie and Frightened Rabbit. I was looking forward to seeing them, but what I was really looking forward to was the Red Rocks experience. An

The Power of the Riff kicked off its second year in L.A. with a line-up that would make anyone on the East Coast blind with envy. Lissie and her band were in Colorado again this week for some promotional gigs with KBCO. A Studio C session was followed by a listener appreciation show at Soiled Dove on Wednesday night. Those that weren’t lucky enough to win tickets to that performance were treated to a free parking lot gig with Bobby Long

It was July 17th, 1986 when I attended my first concert. Stevie Nicks played the Cal Expo Amphitheater in Sacramento, CA. My dad had won tickets on the radio, as he commonly did, and this time my mom couldn’t make it to the show. I was 9 years old. In my head I pictured Stevie

What a difference 24 hours can make. Last night’s My Morning Jacket show at Red Rocks was the antithesis of the The Flaming Lips production the night before. The band from Louisville, KY took the stage with nothing more than their instruments and their beards. A little stained-glass to augment the natural background was all

It might have seemed a little presumptuous when Wayne Coyne took the stage to declare this night as ‘one of the greatest Red Rocks has ever seen‘. It might have seemed that way if you don’t understand Wayne’s personality. He didn’t really mean that this night would top countless legendary performances over decades of music
