“I have a confession to make. The show might not be funny tonight.” Not exactly what one wants to hear out of a comedian’s mouth at the start of their set. Especially when the comedian is as unpredictable as Dave Chappelle. This is a guy who will perform an absolutely genius comedic set one evening,

“It’s Blue Rocks tonight, people!” Jack White has an affection for colors. With White Stripes it was the color red, but ever since he parted ways with Meg, it has been blue. The artwork (and tour) for Blunderbuss found White dressed all in black with blue tinted skin, set against a blue background. Lazaretto continued

Showing up to Red Rocks almost 3 hours early usually guarantees a parking spot in the Upper North Lot and a great seat in the front 24 rows of the GA section. There have been no such guarantees this season. Parking attendants try to direct even the earliest of birds to the lower lots, hours

Sometimes I get a little overzealous when it comes to buying concert tickets, especially during Red Rocks season. It’s not like they release the schedule all at once and allow me to pick and choose what shows I want to go to. The line-up leaks out over a couple months and I buy ticket as they are

Lykke Li has gone through a transformation of sorts in the studio, but when it comes to her stage presence, she is still a force to be reckoned with. When the lights went down on the stage at Red Rocks on Wednesday night, the smoke poured in, the wind started to blow, and the girl in black

It’s hard to find anything good to say about the members of Mötley Crüe. With the exception of Mick Mars, I don’t respect anything about them as human beings. They are the epitome of excess. They were disrespectful little boys who grew up to be disrespectful old men. Peter Pan Syndrome, mixed with massive amounts of drugs and

On March 8th, 1994, two bands released their defining albums. Trent Reznor brought his industrial project to the mainstream (and dancefloors) with a song about fornicating like an animal, while Chris Cornell solidified himself as the voice of the heavier side of alternative rock. Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden both had a following before these albums were released, and

“Where am I? How long shall I suffer here?“ Two years ago I was preparing for a road trip that would take me out of Colorado, through Utah and Idaho, and into the Pacific Northwest, only to return through the birthplace of the spirit of Agalloch. It was the year I had written my in

When the end of the world is upon us, in those last days when only a few survivors hold on to humanity’s last hopes and dreams, I see Nick Cave walking through the streets of a decimated city in a dusty black suit and crisp white shirt. He’s swinging a timepiece on a gold chain,

There are many forms of filth (and varying levels of honesty) in the aboveground rap scene these days, but more often than not, it’s hard to take rappers seriously. There are too many cartoonish actors in the game. A misogynist with gold teeth and an AK-47 doesn’t shock anyone anymore. And the old school players, the real gangsters and
